BBC’s Rip Off Britain turns its eye to fake reviews as issue gains momentum

London, UK

As the UK Competition and Markets Authority continues its probe into fake online reviews and endorsements, the issue is gathering even more attention – this time from the national broadcaster.

Rip Off Britain, the BBC program that exposes Britain’s rip-offs and helps consumers, has highlighted the growing issue of untrustworthy online endorsements. The programme featured customer content collection service Reevoo, who
boasts a complete absence of fake reviews as part of its offering.

Richard Anson, founder of Reevoo, gave viewers some tips for spotting fakes and explained Reevoo’s fake-proof system.

“Consumers are more and more savvy when it comes to what they see online. That’s why the CMA is looking into the reviews industry, and it’s also why respected media outlets like the BBC are reporting on it,” said Mr Anson.

“We’ve been against fake reviews since the very start of Reevoo, and the kind of unverified systems profiled on Rip Off Britain are full of them. Hopefully, in our own way, we’re helping consumers trust the reviews they see and make better purchases.”
